Nobody drives to Oxford Street, other than buses, cabs and the high net worth individuals who live thereabouts. Most Londoners get there on public transport, although it’s not really a great shopping destination these days. Apart from Selfridges and John Lewis there’s not much to attract non tourists.

Pedestrianising it won’t affect anyone in Ealing, unless they run deliveries there or drive a cab. It’s just another virtue signal from a mayor of rapidly diminishing credibility.

Has anyone else noticed that Khan has stopped bleating about the half a billion quid he insisted TfL needed just to survive? He’s taken half of that from the new government and not complained at all. The economic situation is no different (despite the fictional £22bn black hole). He was just using London’s transport network as a political football.
