Don't have any info on the life expectancy of the "Smart" but I've had mine for 10 years and have had no bother...just a huge saving on petrol..approx 67 m.p.g.They are much more sturdy than they look and have a very good safety record. There are many more of them around now but it's still not easy to get a mechanic who really knows their specific requirments for service and repairs.Because of the materials used for the main body, minor knocks and dings  don't cause dents as easlily as other car bodies...so there are quite a few benefits.
