A new law introduced about two years ago allows for the use of wood-burning stoves that perform secondary/tertiary combustion on the smoke before it leaves the stove in smokeless zones. These stoves are known as "DEFRA approved" and you can see a list of manufacturers and models on the DEFRA website. Apparently these stoves produce less pollution that a gas boiler! Note: not all pollutants are visible!!!
