The Model Shop a few doors down from Northfields station is closing after many years. For those of you who know it, or have walked past, it has a particular charm of its own, with boxes of model cars, trains, and all sorts literally taking up every inch of available space inside. You’d be lucky if you could share the space with more than one customer at a time.

It has been run by a friendly and extremely knowledgable man who retired from teaching decades ago and kept the shop as a testament to his love of models, and to pass on his wisdom and expertise. He wasn't interested in making money from it, as he admitted most people buy online anyway.  I bought my first model car from him in 1987 and my last one in 2024.

I walked past after closing time today and it looks like there is still stock inside, so it may be the last chance to buy anything before it all gets taken away to auction. Take your kids!
