It's a bit more complicated. Add the Prince's Hall — below Victoria Hall — and that will be ample space for Election Vote counting. However the Council owns neither of these halls. The Victoria Hall Trust charity — set up in 1893 — owns these halls. The Council has been trying for many years to hand over the halls to a hotel company on a 250 year lease. Friends of the Victoria Hall (FoVH) has been fighting the Council over this also for many years. A second Charity Tribunal is looming and the fight goes on. My own personal view is eventually we (FoVH) will encounter a senior Judge who will accept our argument that the Council is unfit to run this charity (which it currently does). Why do I think this? Decades of no audited accounts being produced for VHT. The Council representing both the Council and VHT is a sheer impossibility as each body has different aims and objectives. The conflict of interest is so blatant. Finally the Council has failed to make repairs and maintain the hall so such an extent that it has been closed for months — health and safety issues being cited.
