It's not the devices themselves but the complete idiocy of those riding them and the limited amount of control that can be used with them. I have lost count of the amount of these being used by 2 people , Adults riding with toddlers onboard and the amount using the wrong side of the road, swerving across live traffic, using the pavement. The hire ones are being misused by hirers and how does a 14 year old in my street manage to hire one every day? He is a neighbour and certainly does not have a provisional licence. As for non hired scooters, they are rife with misuse. The Police must by stopping less than 1 in 1000. The misuse and bad practice is so dominant that it is now more noticeable when you see a rider using lights and hi viz and riding diligently as it is a total rarity. It's the same with Cycling, so few ride with due care and observance of both road rules and their own spacial awareness. They are a risk to themselves and much to others and a right pain for other cyclists who do ride with due care. This has been deliberately allowed and those who have purveyed this and propagated such idiocy ought to be prosecuted as the root of irresponsibility lay with those people. |
