And that is why you should never believe the twaddle that passes for 'journalism' in the Daily Mail. There was always good coverage alongside the railways as Mercury (then part of Cable and Wireless) did a deal to provide cellular coverage using railway infrastructure (thus avoiding the need for planning permission). Squarials were nothing to do with mobile communications but were the early 'alternative' to Sky and were provided by British Satellite Broadcasting, later BSB and then BSkyB when Sky, as had been expected, acquired them in 1990. |
