| The reason utility companies are so insistent is because of government policy saying: "All energy suppliers must aim to install smart meters in every home in England, Wales and Scotland by the end of 2020." So they need to show the government they've tried their hardest to persuade you to get one. They have to send out a certain number of emails per month, etc, which shows the government that they're trying. The utility companies don't particularly want to do it as they make more money from estimated bills and it's costing them money to install all these free meters. But if they don't they face fines of billions from the government. They don't care if you have one or not as long as they can prove to the government they've asked you the question 400 times :-) |
