You make an important point but isn't the problem here the green belt? Other large cities have managed to grow and grow because large dormitory towns have developed around them with good transport links. London can't do this to the same extent so most of our workforce has to live quite centrally. A market only solution in which population was reduced by not providing any subsidised housing would end up creating problems for the local economy because there wouldn't be anybody to do low paid work. This is not to say that the answer to the problem is to build massive skyscrapers in West Ealing. |
