Your argument would have more weight if the money saved by parents opting to to put their children into private schools was reinvested back into state education. What actually happens is that it goes elsewhere - currently it is being spent on bribing the DUP and no deal Brexit preparations. In pure education terms it would be far better to retain more potentially high achieving children from relatively well-off families in the state education system.
