So, we are constantly told that Ealing needs to save money because of central government cuts, etc, etc. However, it seems that our ever-so-competent council can't even rouse itself to collect all the monies that it can legally claim. Here's a snippet from the latest cabinet meeting: Monthly targeted collection is slightly up for Council Tax but remains slightly below target, with figures at the end of September of 74.8% against a target of 75.0%. Business Rates collection is down and is now slightly below target, with 70.2% collected to date against a target of 70.5%. So, we're about to be told how much more we are going to have to fork out in Council Tax for the coming year, yet they can't even collect the amounts due for last year! And can anyone explain why they have targets for collection that ignore 25 per cent of the monies due? |
