Not W5, but I've been to most there several times with results varying from good but inconsistent (Laguna, Hawali) to consistently mediocre, and some real disappointments (Monty's, so recommended, so nothing special - 5/10. Maybe it was the chef's night off both times I've been there). The most consistent and good local Indian I've been to (many times) is Khushi, formerly Paras, 23 Boston Parade, Boston Road. It's family run and I've never been disappointed with anything. Takeaway is just as good, and although it's a little costly, the ingredient quality is excellent and portions are large. Overall I'd rate at 8.5/10. I've been to Brilliant. Food was very good but I would not say as exceptional as I expected from its reputation. There was something a little "samey" about different dishes. Surely they don't batch cook?!. Most annoying though was the din from the large screen monitors in the dining area. Brightly lit too. It's not a place to relax. 9/10 on food, 4/10 on ambience. Didn't justify the cost or reputation, for me. I think the best Indian I have ever been to was the Red Fort in Soho. Totally exceptional food and everything else, but that was some years ago. It was expensive but an easy 10/10). I also quite like Ealing Balti House, Broadway W. Ealing, which is my local and I have been to dozens of times. Food is about 7-7.5/10, not quite as good as Khushi, but not as expensive either. However Ealing Balti only rates one star for hygiene/safety which surprises me as it seems clean and ingredients seem fresh. In 25 years they've never yet served anything iffy or made us ill! |
