The difficulty in providing objectivity and balance on a Papal visit does this mean interviewing atheists? Or should they create balance by showing Ian Paisley in his Garden? The other trouble for journalists is to balance the protestors against the enthusiasts. They want a good story or soundbite. But the Panorama and the Peter Tatchel programmes provided real balance about the issues surrounding the Catholic Church. So whilst I was not that bothered about the trip it appeared that it was well covered and also issues were also well covered.

The point about the Oxbridge influence in the BBC is very true. It is a small base generally from which it is drawn. It will be funny how they manage when they all have to move to Salford!!
