| To some extent it is the shops fault, starting with the introduction of supermarkets with open shelves in the first place, where you were encouraged/expected to help yourself. Then other initiatives such as self-checkouts and self-scanning have put even more onus on the customer to do the work once done by shop staff. I gather that theft by employees is a greater source of losses in the retail trade, particularly in distribution warehouses, where poor staff relations discourage trust or loyalty. |
