Simon, I trust you will the discount people trying to pretend reducing the number of vehicles using a side road junction doesn't improve safety at that junction (and of course on the road being used as the shortcut).

There are many people in Ealing trying to pretend all is fine as regards road safety, it clearly isn't.

The comparison with Longfield Avenue is a good one and would make a good case for doing similar at Hamilton road, fewer vehicle using the junction to take short cuts, fewer incidents. It's pretty obvious!

The argument that it just shifts a problem elsewhere is fallacious too. Main roads have things like proper crossings etc.. which side roads generally do not.
