The problem here is that human rights legislation contradicts other international treaty obligations. Don't think there is any easy fix for this — people who think we can disregard human rights have to realise that it might seem a good idea in a case like this but as a general principle it would cause huge problems? The UK had trouble agreeing to extradicting suspected terrorists to Jordan, a country with a fairly robust legal system and human prison conditions so I don't think they would be able to come to terms with the Indian government in this case. |
