Crikey, that’s a very reductive attitude.

I should imagine the vast majority of people in this country have no idea who most of the people commemorated with statues are. Old blokes and old blokes on horses mainly. I’m pretty well educated and interested in things but I wouldn’t know most of them without looking it up.

However, I propose that the statue of Richard I, the Lionheart, be removed from outside the Palace of Westminster because he was a war-monger who invaded a land to which he was not entitled and led the slaughter of Muslims in the Holy Land. He was barely in England during his reign, so why do we commemorate him thus? He has blood on his hands.
