| Dr Sahota thinks "as his planning application was put through the normal process for consideration and then rejected by the planning committee, there can be no proper basis to a suggestion that he was given any out-of-the-ordinary favourable treatment by the Council" Um NO! The minutes say the planning committee for the hearing was made up of 13 councillors only 7 of which were Labour. All the opposition members spoke vehemently against it and so did a Labour one, Cllr Rennie, so the Labour majority was smashed from the start. 2 of the Labour ones didn’t go to the site visit and didn’t voice opinion on the night, further eroding any influence that Bell might have had on his Labour members swaying the vote in favour. One Labour member spoke of the merits of the application and tried to get it deferred to no avail. So I read the minutes like the stronger side won rather than evidence that ‘no out-of-the-ordinary favourable treatment’ was given Sahota. On the contrary the officer’s report trying to steer the committee to grant the permission so unacceptably looks a lot like evidence of "out-of-the-ordinary favourable treatment" was given… and probably given as a result of the leader of the council's extraordinary meddling. |
