| Cllr Dennehy's complaint is against Cllr Bell, not Onkar Sohota - me thinks Dr Sahota protests too much. In approaching Cllr Bell, he at the very least showed poor judgment. I was trying to obtain planning permission for my house whilst I was a councillor and made a point of not involving any of my councillor colleagues in the matter, as that was by far the best way to protect them from any accusations of impropriety. Why could Dr Sahota not see the danger he was exposing Cllr Bell to by approaching him on this subject? Why did Cllr Bell not simply tell Dr Sahota it would be inappropriate for him to become involved? Did Noel Rutherford - an council officer with enough experience to know better - advise Cllr Bell to avoid personal involvement in this matter? Did Noel Rutherford attend the meeting of his own volition or was he instructed/requested to attend by Cllr Bell? In light of the risk of improprietary, did Noel Rutherford report his involvement in the visit to his line manager or to the Council's legal department? |
