| There has lng been a rather cosy relationship between certain architects and builders and local authority planning departments. Examples are dotted all over the borough where approval has been given to places with some aspects which break rooflines and viewlines and yet less offensive plans in the same street get flatly refused. Take a closer look and the same names come up who get approval and those refused are generally from architects and builders who are independent or 'not in the loop' It is not a level paying field and there is certainly a bias towards those who have large resources getting what they want and getting away with it. With so much coming and going in planning departments, it's no surprise that developers and their clients are targeting councillors probably indirectly, via family, friends etc. It's the motive that is the worry and the weakness of individuals. Is that corruption? |
