My gut reaction is that using the small mansion for a girls' school is a good idea. The current school is near my house, on Gunnersbury Avenue, and I think a park setting is a attractive alternative. The girls must be very cramped on the current site. Further, both mansion buildings are seriously delapidated so a scheme which encourages refurbishment and costs the council little is to be welcomed. Lastly, a few years ago we were consulted on using part of the park for private development and using the money to do up the mansion in order to save it. This clearly was rejected by most. The cash need to save the building is in the order of £10million, so it's not peanuts. Surely the school's use of the building can be restricted so no extensions are allowed etc. Just some thoughts. |
