| Firstly, thanks to all you folks who are taking an interest in this case. I know how easy it is to be remote when it's not taking place on your doorstep, or back garden, as the case may be. When it comes to planning and property ownership, the law is an ass. When is my flank wall not my flank wall? When a wealthy developer with no sensitivity or concern for his neighbour decides to take an angle grinder to my property to insert lead flashing as weatherproofing on his new flat roof. This is what he would intend to do if plans go ahead, and there's outrageously nothing I can do about it. The propsed extensions are in 5 directions, increasing the footprint by one third and doubling the floor space. If this sort of thing is allowed to go ahead, on revised plans, then nowhere in the Consevation Area is safe. Nobody's house is safe from their neighbour extending and joining onto their house. A law brought in, the 1997 Party Wall Act, allows for such. It's perverse and absurd. As Victor has mentioned in his posting, thankfully there are other laws that can protect us. They will be brought into force to protect no 43, as well as my house next door, if necessary. Judy |
