Trouble is that service vehicles are now workshops on wheels and carry specialist equipment and often power supplies, as well ascostly materials, all rather attractive to 'Chummy Looter'.. Now that the road is narrowed there is nowhere for the service vehicles to park near the vicinity that they are deployed with out causing congestion or a wider hazard. Obviously, this does not excuse the G4S vehicle as none of these apply, it is a delivery and collection vehicle. However, whilst the new paving is a real improvement, some other aspects are proving to be rather dangerous. Delivery trucks (even when legitimately parked) now force cyclists further out into the road to stay clear of doors. Buses and HGVs are forced into the oncoming lane. I've now ridden on 3 bus journeys where the driver has had to perform an emergency stop (one on the raised zebra X-ing) This led to several people falling on the bus and a very near miss with a skip truck. I think it is only a matter of time now before a really bad smash happens. These fears were flagged up and were not heeded but it is now happening for real. |
