It's nice to see the new paving with larger flagstones and it does make a difference. And a lot more of the district that has not had a penny spent for 40 plus years needs it too. It's a shame when one travels around the borough that several places where the money has been spent consistently for the last 25-30 years that many of those areas look just as tatty as before. A lot comes down to civic pride and people having some responsibility. Shopkeepers would once wash and brush the pavements outside as wold residents. Now one can step over dogs mess, vomit and goodness knows what to get into a shop and no-one cares. It's always for someone else to clear up. Sure it's wrong but if it's outside your business, hardly an invitation to come in and spend. It would help if the council would enforce fines for spitting, vomiting and defacating (animal and human) as the Bye-Laws already exist. Post works maintenance is also always left out. Clovelly road was repaved entirely several years back. Now the tree roots and settlement has made some uneven and dislodged. The repairs are not proper. It's a blob of tarmac and the cycle begins again, a return to a tatty run down appearance. |
