For loooong waiting list read, in some cases, never. The popular schools are over-subscribed by a significant factor, particularly the faith schools in the borough which have consistently good results.

Also check the school's catchment area VERY carefully. My own house is in the catchemnt area for an outstanding primary (doesn't affect me as my own children are long grown up) but the house next door is in the catchment area for a 'satisfactory' school.
