Topic: real wood fires allowed in ealing?

I have just read that Ealing is a "smoke controlled borough" and that one can;t burn wood or coal in a home fireplace. Is this really true? I have seen plenty of chimneys in action in the area - are they all burning the vetted manufactured briquettes I wonder .. ?
