George, I am sorry I can't remember the details but one of these Housing Associations has a surplus of £16.4 million. This "started" as our money and then by accumulation of assets (houses) further taxpayer grants rents etc produce organisations which are essentially private. The surplus as I understand it is not profit because these are charities or "not for profit" companies. Of course this doesn't make them humble and meek as I discovered and some of the salaries paid to senior staff are astronomical. |
