Sometimes I do wonder if people on this forum were ever young. When I was at school rowdiness on buses was the norm. We'd run around, shout and make a general nuisance of ourselves. If it got out of hand the driver would chuck us off. It's not something I'm proud of but children have lots of energy and there was a sense of relief at getting out of school that translated into exuberance. It was always the case and always will be and with driver only operated buses there isn't much that can be done. Obviously, being a bit of a hypocrite I'm not best pleased when a group of rowdy kids gets on a bus and like most people I'd like them to be reined in and controlled. You could argue the best way to do this would be for the inspectors and the BTP to regularly board buses from 3.30 to 4.30 every school day and confiscate passes off anyone who has been behaving badly but the inspectors don't want to have to deal with rowdy kids and there aren't enough police available to do this effectively. What actually happens is that the authorities are telling us they are dealing with the problem of anti-social behaviour on buses and pointing to the number of confiscations as 'proof'. The reality is that the focus is on soft targets and not at all on anti-social behaviour so the problem does appear to be getting worse. |
