Not necessarily specifically in the evening  -  those single markings can mean any specified days/times short of 24/7. You need to look at the accompanyinmg timeplates to find out what those days/ times are.

And it's the continuous yellow lines in the gutter parallel to the kerb that mean 'no waiting' ie no parking for general purposes. The short transverse yellow marks on the kerbs mean an additional prohibition of 'no loading'  -  if they weren't there, it would be permitted to stop for up to 20 minutes for loading or unloading of heavy, bulky or valuable goods (not general shopping) and/or park for up to 3 hours for disabled persons' Blue badge holders.

Confused?  -  I expect so!
