| Fair point, but it's only my personal theory :-) I guess I was just thinking that even the 3 sides is enough to 'define' the area more than other parts of London sprawl. As well as the missing 4th side, another flaw in my argument of course is that Perivale, Ealing Common, etc., lie outside the 'moat' - but then, medieval castle towns spread around outside the walls and moats too, but the castle still gave them an identity. Perhaps I should stop there before the analogy gets too strained... |
