Unfortunately the only places I can think of is "The Broadway" in Debden and Crawley's "new" shopping centre, neither of which are in Greater London.

I am not suggesting total uniformity of buildings but at least a degree of overall similarity. After all we don't go out wearing different coloured shoes, do we? Socks perhaps, but that's less noticeable (I suppose that's why ladies prefer tights to stockings?).

Much of the problem is land ownership and different development times. What looked smart in 1975 is old hat in 1980 and so on, even aside from changes to building regulations. This where an enterprising council could come up with an overall plan to ensure all new building conformed to an "Ealing" style, whether gothic, baroque, Elizabethan (1950s) or something unique to that place we all love and live in - Ealing!

I remember a survey from Ealing Council in 2001 or 2002 (Unitary Development Plan?). I wonder what happened to that?
