Ah but,if as Robert says "it was imposed around 1280" and we know that Walford wrote the book in 1883,then the elapsed time was about six centuries,then that constitutes many centuries in my book. Now if on the other hand Walford had said "many",and Robert said it was only two centuries I agree that Walford was an exagerater. But then again if he'd said "many" and Robert said it was three centuries then I wouldn't be happy but might forgive him,just on the basis that "many" is a relative term. For four and five centuries,I find a slightly grey area,but would give him the benefit of the doubt. But six centuries is to me,by any measure "many" centuries and I hope you can find it possible to concur. Next millenia.... :0) |
