Anne, I reckon you might need to go another route. RtRs were getting pretty rare a few years back with the rise of cassettes etc - and that's before CD and then hard disk storage. I guess the stuff you have is on 1/4" tape (and I can't even remember what the right tape speed is). Anyway, I doubt if anyone has such an item capable of reading kicking around in a house now (the sound quality was better than cassette but not stellar and these were often ejected as junk). So, I think you may need to consider approaching some professional sound studio that secialises in analog recording to do the transfer who might just have a machine (not a mastering machine that runs on wider tape). I am not sure if there is any such local but you might need to check specialist music enthusiast or recording magazines or something like that. That said, someone running an old Fostex-based studio might be able to help but I supsect the vintage works against you. Anyway, my 2p worth.
