Evershed's Sports Club had a members' bar, a cricket pitch, 2 football pitches, snooker table, darts and a very active function room with wedding receptions through the summer etc. In 2000 or so, the owner / occupier (there is a flat above the clubhouse) / groundsman and his wife sold up and moved away. The place was taken over by Maricon Ltd - a property development company. Its devotion to cricket was unfortunately limited and having allowed the 60+ year old square to be used as part of the football pitch, the two cricket clubs which had played there for many seasons were forced to relocate. The emphasis became more football oriented and a rather busy looking website appeared (which is still there, untouched): http://www.ealing-web.com/eversheds.htm Although it appears that Southall 2nd XI football team play there on a Sunday (and I presume Eversheds still do so on on Saturday) I am not sure what else goes on there now, but the links with a property development company always made me rather pessimistic as to what might lie ahead. |
