This seems to me a very ill-informed and ill-intentioned post. I could find no reference to excessive alcohol consumption being a significant contributory factor in prostate cancer. The NHS site mentions diet but it appears that research as yet has not identified specific causes other than men getting old. The article you link to doesn't mention prostate cancer — you don't appear to have actually read it. Dr Huq's father, as I understand, did not drink alcohol so it was not a factor in his death. Alcohol is just one additional risk factor for cancer others include air pollution, bad diet, chemicals in our food. There are very few businesses operating that couldn't be said, in some small way, to contribute to cancer risk. The latest research seems to indicate that processed food may be an equivalent or more serious risk to alcohol. If you are setting the bar at 'might cause cancer' then no MP would ever be able to assist any enterprise. Supporting local businesses in the hospitality industry is exactly what a good MP should be doing. I don't know what specifically Dr Huq has done in the area but, if she was not active in this field, I strongly suspect that you would be complaining about that. The plain fact of the matter is that, as informed citizens we have the choice to use products that may in some way damage our health if we feel our enjoyment or convenience is enhanced by them. The last thing we need is a priggish MP setting impossibly high standards both for us and people trying to make an honest living.
