A postscript to this story is that the Really Local Group has gone into liquidation. This is the parent company which survived after the Ealing operation closed. Here is what Preston Benson said: “The UK is being hamstrung by an anti-business environment at local government level. For a model like ours to thrive, councils must act as partners. Instead, we encountered malicious obstruction that made long-term investment and operation impossible. Entrepreneurs aren't a threat; we are often the only ones willing to take risks to revive struggling high streets." There is an element here of him trying to be the hero in this tragedy which is a hard case to make but I don't see any evidence that he was a crook. The liquidation will mean the money he had invested in the company is lost. Little compenstation for the other suppliers that have lost out but at least the reason they weren't paid was because the business was unviable rather than it being drained by a corrupt director. |
