The local ones that I am familiar with seems to operate without any major issues. There was a huge amount of fuss about the one in the centre of Chiswick but there have been no reported collisions in its first few years of operation.

I've seen the videos of some of the floating bus stops in the City and it can't be denied that cyclist behaviour there is terrible. Bus stop islands are unavoidable if you want to have cycle lanes on certain road. The government's pause seems to reflect a more cautious approach on a case by case basis to putting them in.
