There is a saying that "it takes a village to raise a child" and not wihout reason.

In a society where everyone is expected to work all their lives there does need to be work and having your family and friends as support has become more important as it becomes more competitive and there is more regulation - and bureacracy.

Many of the critics are those who probably actually had older siblings, uncles and aunts and grandparents who lent a hand where and when needed as well as friends and neighbours including those from their church or other religious organisations or clubs.  Moving away from this support can cause huge problems at schools (which are also underfunded so support is less available).  Not only does this upset the education so important to children in a competitive world whose friends are so important to keeping them happy and working at school but also actually GOING there...

You do wonder sometimes if some people have ever had children, been children or whether they have forgotten accidentally or intentionally what it was like!
