This really does read like a vanity project. The open spaces involved do not fit together - they are far from being a contiguous whole. There seem to be no plans for a change of land ownership or land management. (We could have been saddled with a quango/CIC/charity somewhat like the governance of the entertainment space called Gunnersbury Park). Ealing Council will still be the organisation which funds and organises open space maintenance and development. This may not be much of a blessing - have a look at the rundown nature of Haven Green for example! It could be argued that the cost of proving links between the major open spaces is a waste of money. One wonders just how many residents will walk/cycle the 8 kilometres. Is this all about Council bosses being able to upgrade their CVs with '...created the Ealing Regional Park'. |
