Yes indeed, in countries like Germany and France, many companies allow or even encourage employees to take off a Friday if Thursday is a public holiday - and the same goes for Monday being a bridging day if Tuesday is a public holiday. But whilst you can take it as a holiday, its no extra day's holiday since it counts against your annual leave or overtime hours. And of course if a fixed date public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday in Germany, bad luck - no day off on Monday as recompense! |
