A friend of mine who has campaigned on environmental issues for decades believes Extinction Rebellion's tactics are counterproductive. They probably are now alienating more than they convince. She says that true environmental policy change occurs at a local level and the most effective thing to do is pick a 'small win' and campaign on it relentlessly. If everyone who was demonstrating with XR did that then positive change would be relentless however it requires persistence, letter writing and the ability to deal with set backs.
Philippa is a good example of how it should be done but a lot of other efforts by people who say they want to save the planet seem to be virtue signalling. |
