It is quite laudable that the Council are trying to encourage sustainable travel by promoting the new bike hire stations from Brompton Bikes in the Copley Estate.
However, the rhetoric about cycling not being a middle class activity may be a bit hollow. I don't know if the system remains the same but I did once try to hire a Brompton Bike and the transaction would go through on my card. I think the reason was that several hundred pounds would have been payable if I didn't return the card which would have put me over my limit. If this remains the case the service won't be available for the less well off.
